Don’t waste your time or your money. My family (including 2- and 4-year-olds) visited Legoland today, and to say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. First off, they have no issue with charging you full admission price ($24.99 per ticket, including for my 4-year-old…total $82.00), while knowing full well many of the attractions/offerings will be closed. Of course, they make no mention of the closures on their website. By the time you find out, it’s too late…you’ve already wasted your time and money. Some of the staff acted like they cared, many did not. One of the rides had a sign stating it would open on the half hour. Waited until that time, and it was replaced with a sign stating, “temporarily closed for deep cleaning”. I asked the staff member if it would be open, he stated maybe later that day if they can find staff for it. So, they just keep switching signs, lying to the customer, because they don’t have staff? How about the staff member that’s sitting by himself playing with the Legos get the ride started? I guess that would be too much to ask for. Furthermore, many of the other interactive activities were not offered, presumably “due to COVID”. So, Legoland ‘Discovery’ Center, thank you for charging me full price to enter a ridiculously disappointing experience. I should have checked the reviews before ordering the tickets, as there are many recent negative reviews like mine. I really don’t look forward to, or care about, the standard response Legoland is going to give to this review. I see the same pathetic pattern of fake apologies with no real answer or solution. Hey Legoland, you want to show you really give a damn? Refund the money I wasted on your pathetic ‘experience’. That would be a good start. In addition, update your website to state something to the effect of “currently, due to the “COVID”, we do not offer much for your money. You’d be better of going somewhere else until we can get our act together”. At least then you can claim you warned your customers beforehand.
My grandkids visited from San Diego. One of the things my grandson, age 9, has raved about is LEGO Land near where they live. My daughter described it as an all-day outing. But my granddaughter, age 6, had never been. I said, "great, we have a LEGO Land here." Apparently the site near San Diego is a very, very large complex of activity centers with both indoor and outdoor activities available. The Discovery Center in Grapevine is actually quite small, almost entirely indoors, poorly lit, in a shopping mall. I purchased tickets online for the opening time, but there was no separate entry for those who already had tickets. Instead there was one person dealing with those who wanted to purchase tickets and to scan the barcode for those with tickets. That was a very slow process. One woman wanted to pay for her tickets with cash and argued when she was told she needed to use a credit card. Those of us in line had to stand and watch this drama unfold. Similar to another review, there was a place to build and race model cars, but there were no wheels in the bins and no staff nearby to ask. There were few LEGO bricks at one of the other areas where visitors might make their own constructions. The ride with laser guns was something my grandkids did like and wanted to do several times. But on most of their rides, at least one of the laser guns did not work. The staff seemed clueless about how to remedy that. My grandkids stood in line to drive some cars (that only went around a tiny circle. There is apparently a big door that can open to the outside to extend the ride, but it was closed the entire time we were there. In all fairness, August heat may be the explanation for that.) But as they neared the front of the line, the staff announced that they were closing for 30 minutes. This was only 1 hour after we had arrived. It is not a complex ride, but apparently there was no one else available to cover that ride while the first pair took their break. Overall the Center seems poorly staffed, and the few staff who are present are inattentive. As for the outdoor area, there are some water jets that kids might play in, but the space was deserted. When I went outside to check it out, the doors turned out to be locked. I had to bang on the door until another visitor came over to open the door. There was no sign indicating that the area was not available, so it is unclear why they are locked on the outside. (there are panic bars on the inside that let me out) As mentioned in another review, the ride with Virtual Reality goggles requires an additional payment. This is not clearly explained at the payment counter. Worse, the person checking people in for the ride can't accept payment right there. He told us to go back to the payment line - which as I said was dreadfully slow. The Center website touts their impressive models of buildings both in Dallas and Fort Worth as well as in Grapevine. That was of zero interest to my grandkids, and it took my wife and I fewer than 5 minutes to walk through the poorly lit display. There are some climbing structures that my grandkids spent some time on, but they are no different than those at various fast food places where there is no $25 ticket required. We were there about 2 hours. My granddaughter said she had fun. That is the only reason I rate this place as poor rather than terrible. My grandson was blunt about how different it was from what he had expected. If I had done my homework, I probably would never have purchased the tickets in the first place. I made the foolish assumption that the LEGO Corporation would have some high standards for any LEGO Land, and I am a bit dismayed to find that they don't. I hope to visit the California version with my granddaughter the next time we travel to San Diego so I can see what a real LEGO Land is like. I will not return to the Center in Grapevine. I will add one more note about COVID protections. When I purchased the tickets online, the website said that masks would be required for everyone. This has been an on-going political issue, of course; and a few days before our visit, the Governor declared that he was banning mask mandates. So almost none of the staff wore masks and I would guess that 70% of the guests did not wear masks. Hand sanitizer dispensers are available.
Way overpriced for the amount and caliber of activities available. We've been to other Lego parks/conventions and this is not at all consistent with our experience of their brand. It's little more than an indoor playground with some Legos thrown in. Many features were closed or didn't work. Signage explaining additional fees or ride requirements were minimal and poorly displayed. There was no supervision of many of the activities, e.g. the area where kids can build race cars had parts all over the floor where people could step or slip on them. Definitely would not return or recommend. Very disappointed in the Lego brand. A note about Covid protocols: Although hand sanitizing stations were available throughout the space, none of the employees wore face masks. Zero.
My daughter is 9 and really enjoys lego friends Heartlake area but she did spend a lot more time creating racers to test on the test ramps at the Racers Build and test section. I think the best ride was the King Quest. We both enjoy the splash pad with oversized legos also the tables with umbrellas around splash area. Lockers and changing rooms are outside at splash pad area very convenient, just remember to bring a towel and or extra pair of clothes. We went early as soon as they open we were able to do all the rides with little to no wait lines, see the 4D show and get our fill on building legos and racers. I would recommend this place to friends and I do see us coming back . Thanks
Wait times in line were pretty long and once closer to the stand, realized it was because staff doesn’t know how to problem solve and rider swap. A large camp group in front of us had two adults and several riders below the height requirement to ride alone. Apparently, there is no protocol for rider swap. It was the end of the summer so it couldn’t have been the first camp group ever. Employees were very flustered and stopped loading everyone for about 15 mins until they could get it figured out. Once on the ride none fo the laser guns worked. Race car building zone had ZERO wheels in the lego bins and no attendant working that part. Kids were sliding down the super steep racing ramps. No supervision anywhere. The cafe was closed at lunch time because they needed a lunch break, which is strange because that is when most people would want to use the cafe. The theater was closed for repairs the whole time we were there although they told us only 20 mins originally, and the virtual reality was an add-on no one told us about. Also, the store takes cards only. NO CASH. Unbelievable. We booked this trip over two months ago and have been looking forward to it. We traveled long distances to come. Our kids had fun, even though the long lines were difficult for them. We will not return and I don’t recommend. Party of nine. Two families (four adults and five kids under the age of 10).
Despite reading poor reviews, we purchased tickets for our family to visit the Legoland Discovery Center in Grapevine, TX, because our son really wanted to go. Boy, our we glad we went! One of the gems of our trip! We enjoyed the photo ops and peeping inside the Master Builder workshop, then came across the Master Builder event outside the coffee shop. There was an amazing pirate and treasure map built from legos, and at the table a Master Builder, Thad, was helping kids collaborate creating the pirates gems. We joined in and our son had the best time! He earned his certificate and we were off to enjoy the 4D film and some other offerings. But like magnets, we were all drawn back to the Master Builder table. Our son kept working away as we all enjoyed chatting with Thad. Thad’s energy, inspiration, and vitality makes that place. His story about how he came to be a Master Builder is so inspiring. He explained his creative process a bit with us as well as taught us helpful tips. Lego has certainly found a gem with Thad. Yes, the center could stand a bit of love but Thad made it worth the entire trip! Memories we’ll treasure watching our son see valuable life lessons in action. Very seldom do you get to see someone authentically follow their dreams and live their purpose.
Our family of 16 (10 adults, 6 kids) went to Legoland and the aquarium (joint ticket) and everyone had a great time. Obviously, the kids did, but the adults had fun as well. It's a great (full day) option for families in the Dallas metroplex. Plus, Grapevine Mills mall (where both are located) has a huge food court for in-between.
